What Lives Beneath (2024)
Role: Sound designer / composer
A project in collaboration with art collective Entangled, which was a finalist in the North Sydney Art Prize (2024).
What Lives Beneath is an immersive, multi-sensory, experiential installation set deep underground. It acknowledges the world of nature that is hidden from us and makes the invisible visible by transporting the visitor into the hidden depths of the underground world of mycelium and soil. Within this subterranean space sits a 2.1-metre-tall geodesic pod-like dome clad externally in timber with mycelium caps. Inside mycelium clad panelling cocoons the visitor as they sit among the mycelium grown organic shapes and listen to a soundscape which sonically situates them underground amongst the mycelium as it grows and travels. This work also showcases, most critically, the enormous potential of mycelium as a biomaterial.
